Nominations

Nominations for the 2024 Teaching in the Territory Excellence Awards open 15 April 2024.

Award categories and criteria

All nominees must be working in a Northern Territory Government school at the time of nomination, and meet the eligibility criteria below for the award category.

Northern Territory Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Educator of the Year
Eligible nominees include principals, school leaders, teachers, assistant teachers and support staff of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.

Northern Territory Early Childhood Educator of the Year
Eligible nominees include early childhood educators who work in preschool, Families as First Teachers (including Stay Play Learn), child care and transition settings.

Northern Territory Inclusion Educator of the Year
Eligible nominees include special education teachers, school leaders, teachers and support staff.

Northern Territory Leader in Education
Eligible nominees include teaching principals, assistant principals, senior teachers, highly accomplished and lead teachers, and mentor teachers.

Northern Territory Primary Educator of the Year
Eligible nominees include primary teachers (years 1 to 6).

Northern Territory Principal of the Year
Eligible nominees include executive contract principals.

Northern Territory Secondary Educator of the Year
Eligible nominees include middle years and senior secondary teachers (years 7 to 12).

Northern Territory Secondary Teacher of the Year
Eligible nominees include middle years and senior secondary teachers (years 7–12), including vocational education trainers, specialist teachers (e.g., sport, drama, hospitality) teachers and coordinators who are Department of Education employees.

Northern Territory Support Person of the Year
Eligible nominees include assistant teachers, support staff (e.g. front office administration staff) and paraprofessionals working in classroom context.

Northern Territory Vocational Education Trainer of the Year
Eligible nominees include vocational education trainers, teachers and coordinators who are Department of Education employees.
